Turf Irrigation: Standard Features
Portable
Kifco Water-Reels®
are compact and very easy to maneuver. They are easily transported from
one area to another by towing with a garden tractor or other small utility
vehicle. Most models can be moved short distances by hand.
Simple
To operate the
Water-Reel®
- Set the
machine at the end of the field with the stabilizer legs down.
- Connect
the sprinkler cart to garden tractor or small vehicle and tow it to
the other end of the area to be irrigated.
- Turn on
the water supply.
- Leave the
machine to operate automatically!
Automatic
Kifco
Water-Reels®
operate
unattended. The machines are equipped with a uniquely powered automatic shut
down system which operates at the completion of each run. The water motor
will automatically stop when the sprinkler cart arrives at the machine.
The operator can select the speed of rewind which determines the amount of
water applied to the site. By operator choice, the sprinkler will also
shut off automatically at the end of the run.
Economical
Water-Reels®
are an economical choice for your irrigation needs. These machines can be
used on several sites or fields and will provide many years of service.
Turbine or
Bellows Drive
Water Motors
Which drive style is right for you?
Let your application be your guide.
TURBINE ADVANTAGES
The Kifco turbine driven water motor is
the latest
technical contribution to the irrigation industry.
This aluminum turbine is the product of many years of research and
design and does not need as much machine inlet water pressure as a Bellows
Driven Water Motor. And,
unlike the Bellows Driven Water Motor, the Kifco Turbine does not have any
local water discharge. All the
water going through the machine is used where it is most needed, at the
sprinkler. The turbine driven
machines also come standard with PTO rewind.
BELLOWS ADVANTAGES
The rubber bellows is the heart of the Kifco
Bellows Driven Water Motor and drives the ratchet mechanism.
The Kifco Bellows Driven Water Motor has been in service for many
years and does not have any seals or sliding parts to wear out, which
insures outstanding reliability. The
bellows drive used on Kifco Water-Reels® does not take pressure
from the water to operate the drive, thus optimizing the water pressure at
the sprinkler. Another
Bellows Drive
advantage is the ability to rewind the tube without sprinkling.
In case of unexpected rain, or a need to clear the equipment from
the field or site, you only need to close the sprinkler valve and the
Water-Reel® will retract the
hose. The
Bellows Drive
is best suited where the water availability is limited.
At flow rates below 20 gallons per minute the bellows drive is more
energy efficient and is the best choice.
Booster Pumps
Booster Pump Kits are available for all the models
except the B-110. Booster
pumps are primarily used for the following reasons:
1)
To raise inadequate pressure to permit the use of a
Water-Reel®
2)
To raise the
pressure to enhance the machine performance
For example, with adequate pressure and a water
flow of 50 gpm, machines with an SR75 sprinkler and a booster pump will
irrigate a regulation size football field with a single pass down the
centerline.
Polyethylene Tube
The medium density polyethylene tube has a thick
wall and is specially
manufactured for many years of irrigation service.
It is built to resist wear, to withstand repeated coiling and to
resist the brittling effect of ultra-violet rays.
It can be repaired with a screw-in mender or by welding. The
tube is
inexpensive to replace.
Kifco Water-Reel®
model numbers are based on the inside diameter of the polyethylene
irrigation tube as well as the water motor type.
For instance, a B-140 is a
Bellows Drive
machine with a 1.4 inch inside diameter polyethylene irrigation tube
and a T-200 is a
Turbine Drive
machine with a 2.0 inch inside diameter polyethylene irrigation tube.
Stabilizer Legs
The stabilizer legs are used to anchor the machine
during operation. On the B-110
the legs are permanently in the set position, simply rock
the machine to anchor it. On
the larger machines, the legs are the simple fold down type which are easy
to set and remove.
Tow Bar
The tow bar on the B-110 model is an innovative way
to change from a hitch to a handle. The
Tow Bar on the Water-Reel® is engineered for flexibility, by simply
removing the pin and inverting the bar it can be used to tow the machine with a garden tractor.
By inverting the bar again, it can be used as a handle to tow
the machine by hand.
Water Application Depths
The depth of water applied is controlled by
regulating the speed at which the machine rewinds the polyethylene tube.
The speed is regulated by a control valve located on the Water-Reel®.
You determine the amount of water you want to apply and how long
you want the sprinkler to run.
Water Sources and Quality
The water motor is designed to work with fresh
water. The source can be a
municipal supply, a well, or surface water, such as, from a river or pond.
A filter on the machine insures that clean water enters the drive
system.
Sprinkler Cart
Every model of Kifco Water-Reel® comes standard
with a sprinkler cart. For the
models B-110 and B-140, the standard sprinkler cart is the
stadium style. In this
case the sprinkler is relatively close to the ground.
The row crop style cart sprinkler is higher off the ground
and the legs are raised to clear low crops.
All other larger models come standard with the row crop style
cart.
